Slumdog Millionaire

Jamal Malik is one question away from winning 20 Million Rupees. How did he do it?
A) He cheated
B) He's lucky
C) He's a genius
D) It is written.

This is the question indicated on the title card at the opening scene of the film Slumdog Millionaire, a small-budgeted British-made film that made raves among award-giving bodies and festivals around the world.

Based on a novel entitled Q&A, the movie follows the story of Jamal (Dev Patel) a young boy raised in the streets of Mumbai, India in search for the love of his life Latika (Freida Pinto) making him try out for the game show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. Jamal reaches the final round; but being the slum boy that he is, this situation stirs the interest of everyone watching, including the authorities who accuses him of cheating. Jamal explains that he knew the answers by chance because of the things that happened to his life, and this would be proven true through a series of flashbacks into his life.

The film garnered numerous awards from Golden Globe, Critics' Choice, British Academy for Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and most recently, the prestigious Academy Awards. In the Oscars alone, the film garnered ten nominations and won eight of them, including the Best Picture award. Danny Boyle, the director of the film, earned a number of best director awards in numerous awarding bodies and film festivals.

Although the film isn't shown yet in the country, I would like to see this one. Probably because it stirs my interest for the fact that it won so much awards in a single year. Aside from that, it's some sort of a Cinderella story in a different setting and a creative twist into the story line.

But most of all, the reason why I want to watch the movie is to for me to answer the question above.

And The Award Goes To...

It's the awards season once again in Hollywood. Besides the fabulous suits and gowns worn by the attendees, the focus of the event is of course the nominated films; not to mention the winners in itself, and the acceptance speeches to boot.

The season kicks off with the Golden Globe Awards, presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). Then followed by the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards. Finally, the most anticipated of them all - the Academy Awards aka Oscars, given by the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences (AMPAS).

These three award-giving bodies are somewhat connected to each other. Primarily because getting a nomination slot (or better yet a trophy) on the first two award-giving body would somehow guarantee you of a slot in the Oscars. Take the case of Kate Winslet, who got nominations and trophies as best actress in Golden Globe and SAG in two different movies - Revolutionary Road and The Reader. Recently, Winslet earned a best actress grandslam by winning her Oscar for her role in The Reader. Danny Boyle got his best director trophy for his masterpiece Slumdog Millionaire in the Golden Globes, and eventually the Oscars.

Here are the list of winners for the said award-giving bodies:
Academy Awards
Golden Globes
Screen Actors' Guild

it's been twenty years

Building a relationship maybe so easy for all of us, whether it is a romantic relationship or the most famous connection that could build a good nation, FRIENDSHIP. Having friends all over your place could be so easy if your friendly and your the Mr. or Ms. Congeniality of your community. But did you had the opportunity to have an endless friendship? A friendship that could last for more than a decade and could get stronger each year? And even a friendship that could be more enjoyable when you does not see each other daily and with that "missing your friend" factor you will call out for a REUNION.

Iskul Bukol: 20 years after, the most awaited reunion movie of the famous Philippine Trio TVJ (Tito, Vic and Joey). These three person are the most loved hosts/comedians of the Filipino families. Here in this movie they are not hosts but they are former classmates who had their reunion for their Alma Mater. And learning that each of them does not changed at all just only for the fact that they had added age but still they are what they are before. They reunited and had the most weirdest adventure they ever had.

This movie is not just about reuniting the TVJ but for me it is their avenue to let us know that friendship is forever and it could get stronger if we are still the "friend" that our friends known from the very start.

If the friendship we build inside our place or school could last like this or more than 20 years maybe we had find the real and true friends we need just like TVJ...

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans

Welcome to the world of Underworld.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is the third installment of the movie Underworld and said to be the prequel as well.

The start of the vampire-werewolves war began when Viktor (Bill Nighy) the ruthless king of the vampires who led a raid to kill all werewolves. But Viktor happened to discover an abandoned baby, he took the baby home and took care of it as his slave. The baby grows up to be Lucian (Michael Sheen) who used to be the first werewolf able to take human form. The blood drinker's leader planned to create a race of werewolves through Lucian's bloodline. As Lucian grows up at the vampires home, Sonja (Rhona Mitra) the beautiful and fiery daughter of Viktor found love and was attracted to Lucian. In the movie it was revealed that Viktor has a tacit relationship with the humans. He agreed to protect the humans from the wolves in exchange for a title. Sonja works for her father too, she escorted the human nobles but unfortunately she was attacked by the Lycans. Lucian's reaction immediately arises, he stole a sword, causing him to engage in a fight with his own kind. Viktor despite of everything didn't acknowledge Lucian's bravery. When Viktor discovers the illegal relationship between his daughter Sonja and Lucian, he hurriedly imprison his own daughter. Lucian escapes but when he heard about what happen to his love he set out to rescue Sonja. The war between Sonja, Lucian and Viktor together with the other death dealers began. The fight ended when Sonja confessed to her father that she is pregnant. Viktor was shocked as well as Lucian. Sonja is sentenced to die and Lucian was forced to witnessed her death. The poor lyvan attempts more further escapes and finally he faced Viktor in a fight. He knocked Viktor down by forcing his sword through Viktor's mouth and head and let the body fall into the water.

The perquel which ging back 1,000 years and deatailing the rise of the breed of werewolves known as Lycans brought a twist to the first two Underworld movie. I found the movie enchanting because of the two actors; Michael Sheen and Bill Nighy. Who they both deliberately possessed their role to the highest level. Nighy is very natural to his acting and gesture (as if he really a vampire) while Sheen takes his monster role seriously. On the other hand Rhona Mitra, the only female lead character in the movie dilivered a great action in her role as Sonja. She was on the go especially in the fights scenes. The coolest part of the movie is the transformation of the werewolves. The soun effects that is used is trembling especially when Lucian transformed. It was unbelievable, you can almost think it was true.

Blood, blood and blood. There are so much blood spilled in the entire movie. It is very disgusting but there is no disgusting as annoying for the too much slavery. The movie comes up with this animal harrassment and molestation. The sex scene is quite amazing, Lucian and Sonja shared a soft but torrid love scene (not good for minors). Though this is not surprising, their love story is the root of the war.

All in all the movie will show you the impossible to possible. Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is directed by Patrick Tatapoulos brought to you by Screen Gems Production and Lakeshore Entertainment.

Panic Room

"It was supposed to be the safest room in the house"

Would you buy a house of 4,000 square foot worth low as you expected? A house with 4 floors and a lots of rooms? And here's the catch, one of those rooms is very unique. Would you or not?

Meg Altman played by Jodie Foster, a recently divorcee from a wealthy man bought a house at the Upper West Side Manhattan. Together with her daughter Sarah which is portrayed by Kristen Stewart move into the house. The house was previously owned by an eccentric multimillionaire who had come up the idea of making a "safe room". This multimillionaire had put something to this room. Nobody knows what thing is it. The owner has a grandson named Junior played by Jared Leto who used to recruit two friends to steal the "thing" inside that room. Junior recruits Secutity expert Burnham played by Forest Whitaker and the greedy man Raoul portrayed by Dwight Yoakum to help him get it out. The bad guys thought that there is nobody in the house. The problem is Meg has been awakened in the middle of the night and found out that there were three strangers sneaking in her new house. She hurriedly get Sarah in her room, unfortunately the thieves noticed it. What follows next is a cat and mouse race. Run here and there. Then Sarah's idea pumped in "Mom, in the Panic Room!". They locked themselves inside but the criminals rerally want to get in. Sarah who used to have diabetes was unexpectedly attacked by her sickness. Meg sneaked out to get some insulin but Burnham and Raoul found their way to get in. Meg forced herself to throw the insulin inside. Can you imagine that?

Panic room is a suspense thriller movie that executes and exercise tension scenes. The main character Meg Altman is a strong woman that fits to the cycle of the environment. Though honestly in the first place when I've watched the movie I can't understand why she chooses to buy and lived in a huge house knowing that they are only two. Anyways, the character made me realized that you can do anything, to the extent that you can kill somebody who want to destroy your family. My favorite scene, where Meg was begging for the criminals to cure her daughter made me cry. The scene is very realistic and the lines were so true. The line "Give her a shot. Please give her a shot!" is very warming to me. I can't forget this line. To some people this line is nothing but for me this is something that capturedmy atention. For you to beg to criminals you don't know and you're not sure if he gonna do it or not. It was amazing. Risky but great.

Why Meg choose to live in the house? This is my question. What's the sense of killing Junior? And here's Burnham a sympathetic bad guy, who doesn't want to hurt anyone. Honestly I'm not convince by his role. On the other hand, Meg has a stronger persona than the bad guys, how come? While Sarah is a little bit annoying because of her stubborness. Lastly the blood exposures is too disgusting.

Panic Room is Directed by David Fincher. According to my research Panic Room is his weakest film and I don't believe that. The movie made me shout " Ay naku!", " Wag kang lalabas!", and "Takbo, bilis!". The movie is able to make you feel in action. Jodie Foster's performance is terrific. I think no one can replace her as Meg Altman. Dwight Yaokam did a remarkable job, he twisted the story, killing your boss? how was that? The same as Forest Whitaker who did a good job. Also to Kristen Stewart though she's just 12 in doing the movie, she portrayed a great role.

Fincher bruoght great actors to fulfill his masterpiece, it creates fear, tension and terror.

FOR THE FIRST TIME TO WHEN I MET YOU

Pursuing Popular Culture, in particular the cinema, indeed, as a valid subject these postmodern times, cinema is the present day opium of the masses.

For the First Time movie is really a predictably fun. A forcefully funny and glossily packaged with all thew amenities for the long-awaited launching movie of KC Conception, princes of local filmdom royalty. As we noticed in the film KC is lovely but she lost some baby fats in order to came up to the sexy standards of Angel Locsin and Marian Rivera. Richard is the ideal male lead: handsome, muscled, carelessly charming.

This first movie of Kc and Richard made a remarkable film that everyone will remember for last. They have the good chemistry that masses enjoyed much. And from this movie, as agreement of the two networks that after they made a movie under Star Cinema, this time they also need to have a movie under GMA films, which now their upcoming movie this February as a Valentine special gift to their fans.

Will the 2nd KC and Richard tandem repeat last year's success? It's for us to find out.

Now that they are paired together for the second time in a romantic movie, KC Concepcion and Richard Gutierrez admit that they are finding it more enjoyable to shoot their scenes together. Their movie will open in all cinemas nationwide starting February 11, 2009.

When I Met You is a love story of a cargo plane pilot (Richard Gutierrez)fall in love with a promo girl (KC Concepcion). This movie from GMA films and Regal Entertainment hopes to be the blockbuster hit this year. Thier tandem is more enjoyable for this time as they have said.

And here's the synopsis of the movie:

SYSNOPSIS

Will their relationship last? Will they survive the odds?

Let's watch the movie and learn on it..........!!!!!!!

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

Just like any other teen movies, this movie is about the friendship of four unique teen girls. The Sisterhood in question consists of four high school archetypes: Tibby, the artist (Amber Tamblyn); Lena, the shy one (Alexis Bledel); Bridget, the jock (Blake Lively); and Carmen, the chubby Latina (America Ferrera). All four are poised to spend the summer apart, which would sound like a real bummer; except for the appearance of a pair of jeans that magically fits all four girls perfectly. The group create a set of rules for the wearing of the pants (each girl gets them for a week, they can never be washed (?)), and agree to send the pants around the globe to each other as they all experience their various adventures.
Just to get it out of the way, there will never be a sequel to this film called “Brotherhood of the Traveling Pants.” Most of us have reservations about wearing another guy’s t-shirt, much less his crusty jeans. So unless they establish up front that these pants are constructed from some sort of frictionless material that prevent dirt, or make a movie like “Brotherhood of the Traveling Boxer Short,” (forget about it!)

"disturbia"

Disturbia

It’s not the famous song of Rihanna…
It’s not the “vam vampira, vam vam pira pira”
It’s a movie which directed by D.J. Caruso and I think it’s the remake of the movie Fright Night, Blue Velvet and the ever famous The Blair Witch Project.
It was a mix of scrounge pictures from these movies.

In the prologue, 17-year-old Kale (Shia LaBeouf, Holes) loses his beloved father to a car crash. A year passes, and he's still on edge. When a teacher makes a careless remark about his dad, Kale punches him out, and is sentenced to house arrest. After his mom (Carrie-Anne Moss, Memento) takes away his Xbox and iTunes privileges, the suburban slacker spies on his neighbors to pass the time.

In the process, he develops a crush on Ashley (Sarah Roemer, The Grudge 2), the hot girl next door, and becomes convinced that another, the soft-spoken Mr. Turner (David Morse, The Green Mile), is a serial killer. With the help of the flirtatious Ashley, practical joke-playing pal Ronnie (Aaron Yoo), and an array of high-tech gadgets, like cell-phone cameras and digital camcorders, Kale sets out to solve a major case without leaving his yard (a feat that would prove more challenging for a less affluent sleuth).

In the end, it's pretty familiar stuff, but there are plenty of scares once Turner realizes he's being watched, and rising star LaBeouf, who next appears in Michael Bay's Transformers, makes for an engaging leading man--despite his character's propensity for slugging Spanish instructors.

SKINWALKERS

Movie Review.

Hmmm….
Actually I’m kinda awkward of what should I write or what kind of movie review am I going to do. Honestly, I love movies especially the suspense and horror but then when it comes to make a review about the certain movie I’ve watched, I could say that I’m not good at it.

Have you heard the movie “SKINWALKERS”?

Well it’s about werewolves fighting and it was based on North American legends and folklore.
Skinwalkers are humans who have supernatural ability to turn into werewolves. Some Skinwalkers find this ability as a gift, while the others find it as a curse. These diametrically opposed camps are fighting over a 12-year-old boy. It is believed that when this particular boy reaches the age of 13, skinwalkers will cease to be and will become normal human beings once more.

In the story, the skinwalkers who want to be normal humans are led by the middle-age Jonas (Elias Koteas). His mission is to protect the boy at all cost since they do not want to be skinwalkers who prey on humans. Meanwhile, the skinwalkers who want to remain as werewolves are led by Vadek (Jason Behr), who happened to be Jonas’s brother. Vadek, together with his team will go to great lengths to kill the boy and continue to embrace the power of the beast.

They are all after the half-blood boy named Timothy (Matthew Knight). He lives a normal life with his uncle Jonas, unaware to the fact that he is Vadek’s son and that he holds the key to the future of all the skinwalkers.

When the moon is full, the skinwalkers become werewolves and hunt. Those who have moral issues lock themselves up until morning. But aside of killing, the movie shows that skinwalkers also have sex during full moon. You cannot help but suspect that the bit of information was just added lend legitimacy to Mr. Behr’s superfluous butt exposure halfway through the movie.

When it comes to acting, I think that the actors are not that good particularly by Jason Behr. He is plain, boring and bogus. As a werewolf, he should have a strong personality that will enchant the viewers, but he ends up flat.

I think the movie is not worth of your precious time although the three writers are great. It only focuses on the scenes which includes the lovemaking of Vadek’s and his stunning girlfriend Sonja (Natassia Malthe). Since Sonja has the curves, the movie capitalizes on her by constantly focusing on her cleavage. (I think a lot of male viewers enjoy the movie with the popcorn on their mouth.)

Trailer: Confessions of a Shopaholic

There are a lot of things that I'm interested about. Three of them are movies (why, of course!), books and shopping. What happens when you combine all three of them?

You get: Confessions of a Shopaholic

That's right, that bestselling novel from Sophie Kinsella that tackles that one guilty pleasure among city babes and the trouble that entails. The truth is, I haven't read the book, but I heard a lot of good things about it, so I want to see it for myself.

But while the movie isn't showing in the movies yet, let's take a peek at its trailer...
