Apocalypto

Directed by Mel Gibson

From the most awarding movies directed by Mel Gibson, here comes another action-packed movie that would made you transport to the time line of Mayans overseas from the Philippines.

Apocalypto is a story of "weakess link" survival between strong and weak tribes during the Maya Era. Tiger Paw and his tribe was conquered by Mayans and was supposed to be an offering to their sun god. Tiger paw survived and managed to save his family in a deep empty well. he did a lot of struggles to fight for his freedom and for his family. he also managed to save the last heir of their tribe, his kids.

scale from one to five, in which 5 is the highest, Apocalypto got a rate of 5.

Cars

BRUM BRUM BRUM!

Pixar's another winning movie bagged the heart of a sluggish, movie critic novice ever in this blog site! The movie cars from pixars seemed to be similar to the moral story of Finding Nemo and Shrek series. The catch? the movie is for the whole family.

the story of the movie is about Lightning McQueen, a red porsche race car who aims to win the Piston Cup of the season wherein the said race is a "winner takes all" game. one of the price is the famous Dingko, an all maintenance car sponsor in the country. while aiming to win on the cup, he accidentally lost on the road 66 town and met several unknown cars. he had a great adventure with all of the cars in the town and gave him a lesson of love and consideratiom for other's feeling.

scale of one to five whereas 1 is the lowest and 5 is the highest, the movie Cars got 5.

The Main Course!!!

The moment of TRUTH.

The day that I realize what my real purpose in my course Bachelor in Journalism. For almost three years in my studies I did not understand my real purpose on why I'm still stuck in my boring college life.

Once I read a quote lying, it said "My aim is to write down on paper what I saw, what I heard and what I feel". Taking my course is an accident, I thought I would never make it. I struggle to fight with my more experienced classmates in terms of writing. Honestly, I am definitely scared because I knew to my self that I can't really write a good story.

Last Saturday, I've attended a seminar which my section is the one responsible and taking charge. The "on-line seminar" that's what we called it thought us how to write accurately. Our guest speaker Mr. Pablo "Jun" Millian shares his unforgettable experienced about his job. I'm very surprised when he told us that he is not really a journalist and actually did not graduate. But it is very inspiring that through his "one thing" which is the focus of his life, he had achieved what he really wanted to be.

He told us that we must see the "bigger picture" than the "small one". He also give us an advice that entering the media industry is one of the toughest job in the world. According to him, we must love what we are doing because that will be our life then.

The main course is "The main thing is to KEEP the MAIN thing the MAIN THING"

Keeping the Focus

The date: March 7, 1009

The time: 3:30 PM

The place: COC-AVR

While some of the people I knew are kinda dragging their feet into this sort of a mini-event, I'm kinda anticipating this one, because this is something that I could make use of someday (or should I say right now?)

I'm talking about the informal talk with Pablo "Jun" Millian that happened at the said time and place. The talk was all about visuals in the Net, which is somewhat an important aspect in this new breed of information medium.

But more than the technical aspect of this subject is a quote that touched the hearts of perhaps many a member of the audience that day: "The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing." Sounds weird? Try repeating it a few times, and you'll get what it means - focus on the thing that you want to bring focus into.

Not to mention some kind of a constructive blog layout criticism slapping into your faces. Do I have to explain the reason behind the new layout? :D

Slumdog Millionaire

Jamal Malik is one question away from winning 20 Million Rupees. How did he do it?
A) He cheated
B) He's lucky
C) He's a genius
D) It is written.

This is the question indicated on the title card at the opening scene of the film Slumdog Millionaire, a small-budgeted British-made film that made raves among award-giving bodies and festivals around the world.

Based on a novel entitled Q&A, the movie follows the story of Jamal (Dev Patel) a young boy raised in the streets of Mumbai, India in search for the love of his life Latika (Freida Pinto) making him try out for the game show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. Jamal reaches the final round; but being the slum boy that he is, this situation stirs the interest of everyone watching, including the authorities who accuses him of cheating. Jamal explains that he knew the answers by chance because of the things that happened to his life, and this would be proven true through a series of flashbacks into his life.

The film garnered numerous awards from Golden Globe, Critics' Choice, British Academy for Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and most recently, the prestigious Academy Awards. In the Oscars alone, the film garnered ten nominations and won eight of them, including the Best Picture award. Danny Boyle, the director of the film, earned a number of best director awards in numerous awarding bodies and film festivals.

Although the film isn't shown yet in the country, I would like to see this one. Probably because it stirs my interest for the fact that it won so much awards in a single year. Aside from that, it's some sort of a Cinderella story in a different setting and a creative twist into the story line.

But most of all, the reason why I want to watch the movie is to for me to answer the question above.

And The Award Goes To...

It's the awards season once again in Hollywood. Besides the fabulous suits and gowns worn by the attendees, the focus of the event is of course the nominated films; not to mention the winners in itself, and the acceptance speeches to boot.

The season kicks off with the Golden Globe Awards, presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). Then followed by the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards. Finally, the most anticipated of them all - the Academy Awards aka Oscars, given by the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences (AMPAS).

These three award-giving bodies are somewhat connected to each other. Primarily because getting a nomination slot (or better yet a trophy) on the first two award-giving body would somehow guarantee you of a slot in the Oscars. Take the case of Kate Winslet, who got nominations and trophies as best actress in Golden Globe and SAG in two different movies - Revolutionary Road and The Reader. Recently, Winslet earned a best actress grandslam by winning her Oscar for her role in The Reader. Danny Boyle got his best director trophy for his masterpiece Slumdog Millionaire in the Golden Globes, and eventually the Oscars.

Here are the list of winners for the said award-giving bodies:
Academy Awards
Golden Globes
Screen Actors' Guild
